Fashion Bags 101

Ever wonder what all those fancy names for different handbags are? We have compiled a list for you.

Handbag: A purse or handbag is often fashionably designed, typically used by women, and is used to hold items such as wallet, keys, tissues, makeup, a hairbrush, cellular device or personal digital assistant, feminine products, or other items. Usually small in size but comes in a variety of sizes.

Clutch: Small, yet long (rectangular). A medium-to-small-sized purse with a short handle, designed to be carried (clutched) in one's hand. Can also be found without a handle and carried in the hand.

Satchel: large bag with small handle that is carried on the arm rather than on the shoulder.

Duffle: A duffle bag (or duffle bag) is a large cylindrical bag made of cloth with the closure at the top, often also referred to as a kit bag or gym bag. Duffle bags are also used by military personnel. When used by sailors, they are called seabags. Sizes and shapes carry.

Tote: A medium to large bag with two straps. Often used to carry items too large for a purse.Usually used to carry things such as books, beach wear, groceries, or other everyday items. A tote bag is normally made of treated canvas, nylon or heavy pebbled leather. Some totes come with a zipper compartment that divides the bag into sections. Commonly only has one large compartment.

Messenger bag : A bag with a long strap to be worn across the body diagonaly. This is worn over one shoulder with a strap that winds around the chest resting the bag on the lower back.

Sling bag : A bag with a long strap (similar to a messenger bag), yet smaller. A sling bag is a type of bag that is worn over one shoulder with a strap that winds around the back resting the bag on the hip. Although they are similar to a Messenger bag, sling bags are often smaller and are worn in a slightly different way but can range in size from small to large.

Wallet, or billfold: a small, flat case used to carry personal items such as cash, credit cards and identification documents, such as a driver's license. Wallets are generally made of leather or fabrics, and they are usually pocket-sized.

Diaper bag: A storage bag with many pocket-like spaces that is big enough to carry everything needed by someone taking care of a baby while taking a typical short outing. These typically have outer pockets but not required to be a diaper bag

Briefcase: A briefcase is a narrow box-shaped bag or case used mainly for carrying papers and other documents and equipped with a handle.

Portfolio: A portfolio is a handleless case for carrying in the hand or under the arm.

Folio: A folio case is a portfolio with a retractable handle

Attaché case: An attaché case is a box-style case made of leather (occasionally aluminium), stretched over a hinged frame that opens into two compartments.
